Private Water Wells
If your perspective house is equipped with a private well, Massachusetts Home Inspections recommends that you have the bacteriological quality of the water tested before purchasing the home. I recommend that this test be performed before the close of escrow and then annually thereafter. The EPA recommends that you test your well water annually for nitrates and coliform bacteria. I do offer Water Quality testing through a State-certified laboratory and your results will be ready within 2 days. Each water test varies as to what is being tested. The following tests can be performed: Coliform, E.Coli, Arsenic, Chloride, Copper, Fluoride, Gross Alpha, Hardness, Iron, Lead, Manganese, Ph, Nitrate, Sodium and Radon in water. The results of your water test might show contaminants that are offensive, but not necessarily health risks. The lab will advise you about the differences between that type of contaminant and dangerous contaminants, and their possible sources. In addition to regular water tests, well water should be tested immediately if there is any change in its clarity, color, odor or taste, or if there has been a change in the surrounding land use. Through regular assessment and testing of your water supply, the microbial and chemical safety of your well water can be verified.
